Everyone loves a bit of tragedy once in a while and this Sturdy Beggars' production of Othello is the perfect way to indulge; witness an act of possessed rage and watch the choas unfold.

Othello - a Shakespearean masterpiece - captures the dark and obsessive side of love; it clings to the devastation of betrayal and documents the aftermath of a sinister act of jelousy.

Along with twisted tales of bitterness and a crushing act of passion, Othello also emphasizes the timeless issues of race and sexual politics.

This production isn’t any old my-eyes-keep-closing-because-I-don't-know-what's-going-on Shakespeare play though. It cuts to the chase with an astounding raw simplicity. The venue is intimate; there are no props, scenery or flashy costumes - this is theatre stripped to the basics.

Sturdy Beggars formed in order to present entire seasons, rather than one-off productions. Each season will explore a particular theme through different pieces of theatre – from new writing to Shakespeare, from naturalism to expressionism, from comedy to tragedy. This season's theme is: "The Outsider; a study of the nature of prejudice." The season began with the sell-out production of Witold Gombrowicz’s Princess Ivona and continues with Othello.
