Have you heard of Chaplin? No, not the black and, white moustache twitching Charlie... I'm talking 2007 full color actor currently gracing the West End.
If you don't know him by name, chances are you've seen him on stage in the West End or on the big screen. If you haven't and are keen for yet another brush with fame, he's set to star in Nicholas Wright's play The Reporter.
The production, directed by Richard Eyre (Mary Poppins), will begin performances at the National Theatre on February 14th. Journos will love this one; it's based on the amazing life of former BBC correspondent James Mossman. The play follows Mossman's final years before his suicide in 1971. Expect a lot of detective work as The Reporter digs deep for the answers behind his mysterious death.
Nicholas Wright is set to deliver a good 'un. Expectations will be high after recent National Theatre hits Vincent in Brixton, His Dark Materials and Thérèse Raquin. Some threesomes are just meant to be - and Wright, Eyre and the big structure on the South Bank is one of them.
It's no one man show either, Bruce Alexander, Leo Bill, Patrick Brennan, John Cummins, Aleksander Mikic, Chris New, Angelo Paragoso, Gillian Raine, Paul Ritter, Angela Thorne and Tilly Tremayne will also hit the stage.
So, have you located Chaplin's face in the dark recesses of your memory yet? Cast your mind to the stage productions The Retreat from Moscow and The Glass Menagerie. Or to popcorn palace fillers The New World, Stage Beauty, Birthday Girl, Washington Square, The Thin Red Line and The Truth About Cats and Dogs.
